As I have stated before, if schedules pan out,
I will be visiting Europe in the next couple of months. At this point, it looks as if I will be visiting Croatia and possibly Sicily, Italy.
I watched a Travel Channel special about Croatia a few years ago. I knew immediately that I had to visit. Previously, the first thing that sprang to mind about Croatia was genocide. Apparently, Croatia is a very safe, beautiful Mediterranean country that includes 1000 islands. Believe it or not, Sicily, Italy is just over the water from Croatia. 3 people I know who have traveled extensively recommended Croatia as their # 1 choice-independently of each other and without my even mentioning Croatia!
Below are a few stunning pictures I found of Croatia, and the last picture is of Sicily.

The first 2 pictures are of one of the most famous sites in Croatia-A series of beautiful, bright blue lakes.

Hey good for you Robin, you will love these areas.
I am in Crete at the moment, and will be in Greece until mid April, then heading north.
If you find yourself in the area, shoot me a line.
I am surprised you're not on Twitter?
Ive been wanting to go to Croatia for a while, but also Portugal... Barcelona has been a popular tourist destination, but sounds like you prefer nature to cities.
Harvey,
Portugal is definitely on my list as well. Yes, you are right. I don't care about cities. If I ever visit France, I will not even bother visiting Paris.
Hey Crabs with Eyes - thanks for sharing that.
Believe or not - My wife and I traveled to Croatia back in 2004. Those lakes are amazing. Zagreb was OK but I good portion of time was spent in Slovenia which I recommend. Check out Lake Bled.
On the other side of the water from Croatia is Venice. We drove over there from Croatia. Sicily is around the boot of Italy I think.
Look forward to some good pictures.
Maybe I should post some. I don't post about travel much but who knows maybe this Croatia thing is growing.
Oh if so, I hope Slovenia is up there too. I guess Slovenia has better mountains and Croatia would have a better coast.
Lisleman, I didn't think Zagreb looked all that great from the pics I've seen. I am more into coastal areas than big cities. You should definitely post your croatia pics. They would be very interesting.
The pictures are indeed stunning...specially of Croatia
