My 1st Belly Dance Performance

I wrote a post a few months ago about my first belly dance class. At the beginning of the class, my instructor explained that in a few months we could take part in an optional "hafla," which is basically a recital/party. Everyone invites their friends and family (and anyone else they don't mind seeing them potentially making a fool out of themselves), they perform, and food and alcohol follow. Around 100 people are expected to attend.

Well...

All these weeks, I have been taking these classes with the intention NOT to participate in the hafla out of nervousness. You might recall my last post, where I explain my struggle with social anxiety.

Why I Have Decided to Participate After All
1) Last Mon. I found out that we will be borrowing elaborate costumes, jewelry, scarves, etc., and the more experienced dancers will help us with our hair and copious amounts of makeup. Also, there will be photography/videography. I have since watched a video of previous haflas and the dancers look absolutely gorgeous. I am a girly girl who loves nothing so much as dressing up and being fussed over, so when I heard this latest bit of info, I said "oooooh yeah, I'm in!" .

2) I think performing will be good for my social anxiety. In high school, I was asked to speak at my graduation. I could have said no, but I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. Before my speech, I was absolutely terrified about speaking in front of 3000 people, but when I stepped up on the podium, I was calm and aced it. I'm hoping this performance will be the same way.

Hittin' the Bottle
My instructor said it's ok to bring wine and have some before the performance. I will definitely avail myself of this assistance. The trick, though, will be to drink enough to loosen up and focus on the dance, but not so much that I dance the Macarena instead!
If it turns out well, I will be sure to post pics and maybe video.

I was excited to come read your blog as it came highly recommended. I wasn't disappointed. You had me laughing out loud with the macarena comment.

It all sounds so glamourous. Who doesn't want to be a belly dancer? I admire your style.

Hi belly dancer! I think any kind of public performance, especially belly dancing, is great for confidence and anxiety...very cool!

I like your new blog template. One thing, I noted in the address bar that your blog is named "*". I would change that to the correct name:)

Bobby,
Thanks for the feedback on my new template. I fixed the title and now my blog is not named * anymore:D
